Frequently Asked Questions

Can a collection agency guarantee they will collect the accounts I assign?

Not all accounts are collectable. No agency can guarantee your accounts will be collected in full. The fact is the current national average for all accounts assigned for collection is 18.2 percent (source: The American Collector's Association). Our firm collects between 25 percent and 32 percent depending on the economic conditions and nature of the accounts assigned.

When should I consider using a collection agency?

It is important to identify bad debts early. You should make it part of your monthly routine to review your receivables. The longer you keep a non-paying client on your books the less chance there will be to collect. You should list an account when any of the following occurs:

  • There is no response to your billing notice

  • Payment terms fail

  • Repetitious, unfounded complaints occur

  • Denial of responsibility—insisting someone else should pay

  • Delinquency is concurrent with martial problems, frequent changes of address or employment

  • Repeated failures to contact you after promising to do so

  • Bad address and/or disconnected telephone numbers

How much will you charge me to collect my account?

We never charge any fees other can our contingency rate.  Our contingency rate varies on the volume and dollar amount listed. If legal action is needed, we advance all court costs and attorney fees.  This means there is never a charge to you unless we collect your account.  A collection specialist will be happy to discuss our rate with you when you contact us.

When will I hear from Statewide after listing my accounts?

You will receive an acknowledgment of your accounts from us  when you assign them for collection. Each account is assigned a master number and the dollar amount is confirmed on the acknowledgment.

We immediately send the notice required by federal law, contact the consumer for payment, locate the consumer if he has skipped out, list the account on the consumer's national credit profile, and find assets. You can request a status on your accounts at any time.

When payment is made on your accounts we will send you a check no later than 45 days of the payment. We will continue to work your accounts for payment unless the consumer is deceased with no estate, bankrupt, incarcerated, or deemed a credit criminal.

What if the debtor fails to pay Statewide Collection Bureau?

Unfortunately, there are those people who will not respond to a request for payment. They may claim to be unemployed, fail to keep their payment arrangement, continually move to avoid their creditors, or just flat ignore the demand for payment. However, it is our job to collect your money. If payment is not forthcoming, our collectors are trained to investigate the debtor's assets and, if the assets warrant, refer the debtor to our in-house attorney for suit.

What do I do if someone calls me about an account listed for collection at Statewide Collection Bureau?

If the account is in our Advanced Collection Services program the account is yours to work. However, you should not discuss any account assigned for collection when the program expires. If the account is in suit you can create serious problems for yourself and our office. If the debtor is calling you asking for a favor just remember the times they didn't call you when you asked for payment. Never promise them you can do anything to help them, just refer them back to our office.
